Stack consumption vulnerability in the FTP Service in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 through 7.0 allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via a list (ls) -R command containing a wildcard that references a subdirectory, followed by a .. (dot dot), aka "IIS FTP Service DoS Vulnerability."

The issue has been introduced in 02/17/2000. The weakness was shared 09/04/2009 by kingcope as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-2521 since 07/17/2009. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
