QSslSocket in Trolltech Qt 4.3.0 through 4.3.2 does not properly verify SSL certificates, which might make it easier for remote attackers to trick a user into accepting an invalid server certificate for a spoofed service, or trick a service into accepting an invalid client certificate for a user.

The bug was discovered 12/21/2007. The weakness was shared 01/07/2008 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at trolltech.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-5965 since 11/14/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 30015 (openSUSE 10 Security Update : libqt4 (libqt4-4790)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165712 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update (SUSE-SR:2008:002)).
