A vulnerability was found in Cisco Unified Callmanager up to 4.2. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file ctlprovider.exe of the component Certificate Trust List. Heap-based buffer overflow in the Certificate Trust List (CTL) Provider service (CTLProvider.exe) in Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) 4.2 before 4.2(3)SR3 and 4.3 before 4.3(1)SR1, and CallManager 4.0 and 4.1 before 4.1(3)SR5c, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code via a long request.
The bug was discovered 01/16/2008. The weakness was presented 01/16/2008 by Cody Pierce with TippingPoint (Website). The advisory is shared for download at cisco.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-0027 since 12/17/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 4.1%283%29sr5 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 8879.
