Cross-zone scripting vulnerability in the Internet Explorer web control in Skype 3.1 through 3.6.0.244 on Windows allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML in the Local Machine Zone via the Full Name field of a reviewer of a business item entry, accessible through (1) the SkypeFind dialog and (2) a skype:?skypefind URI for the skype: URI handler.

The bug was discovered 01/31/2008. The weakness was shared 02/04/2008 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2008-0582 since 02/04/2008. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 4 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 30206 (Skype Web Content Zone Multiple Field Remote Code Execution (uncredentialed check)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 115709 (Skype Web Content Zone Remote Code Execution Vulnerability).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
