Word in Microsoft Office 2000 SP3, XP SP3, Office 2003 SP2, and Office Word Viewer 2003 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted fields within the File Information Block (FIB) of a Word file, which triggers length calculation errors and memory corruption.

The bug was discovered 02/12/2008. The weakness was disclosed 02/12/2008 with reversemode.com (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-0109 since 01/07/2008. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 3172 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
