Stack-based buffer overflow in the EnumPrinters function in the Spooler service (nwspool.dll) in Novell Client 4.91 SP2, SP3, and SP4 for Windows allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted RPC request, aka Novell bug 353138, a different vulnerability than CVE-2006-5854. NOTE: this issue exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2007-6701.

The bug was discovered 02/11/2008. The weakness was disclosed 02/13/2008 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at zerodayinitiative.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-0639 since 02/06/2008. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 08/06/2019). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 5262.
