A vulnerability was found in Apple QuickTime 7.4.1 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the file qtplugin.ocx of the component ActiveX Control. The manipulation of the argument sethref

Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in an ActiveX control in QTPlugin.ocx for Apple QuickTime 7.4.1 and earlier allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via long arguments to the (1) SetBgColor, (2) SetHREF, (3) SetMovieName, (4) SetTarget, and (5) SetMatrix methods.
The bug was discovered 02/12/2008. The weakness was released 02/14/2008 by Laurent Gaffie (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-0778 since 02/13/2008. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
