dbus-daemon in D-Bus before 1.0.3, and 1.1.x before 1.1.20, recognizes send_interface attributes in allow directives in the security policy only for fully qualified method calls, which allows local users to bypass intended access restrictions via a method call with a NULL interface.
The bug was discovered 02/27/2008. The weakness was disclosed 02/29/2008 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-0595 since 02/05/2008. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165400 (SUSE Security Update for dbus-1, dbus-1-x11 (openSUSE-SU-2012:1418-1)).
Upgrading to version 1.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
