Stack-based buffer overflow in Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition 8.0 Patch 2 build 1189 and earlier, and 7.3 Patch 3 build 1314 and earlier, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (crash) via a long encrypted password, which triggers the overflow in (1) cgiChkMasterPwd.exe, (2) policyserver.exe as reachable through cgiABLogon.exe, and other vectors.

The bug was discovered 02/27/2008. The weakness was disclosed 03/17/2008 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-1365 since 03/17/2008. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known.

The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 19 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 115739 (Trend Micro OfficeScan CGI Module and Policy Server Buffer Overflows).
