Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in namazu.cgi in Namazu before 2.0.18 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via UTF-7 encoded input, related to failure to set the charset, a different vector than CVE-2004-1318 and CVE-2001-1350. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
The bug was discovered 03/18/2008. The weakness was disclosed 03/24/2008 by JPCERT with JPCERT/CC (Website). The advisory is shared for download at namazu.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-1468 since 03/24/2008. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 6 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 31690 (Fedora 7 : namazu-2.0.18-1.fc7 (2008-2678)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86880 (HP System Management Homepage Cross-Site Scripting and Denial of Service Vulnerabilities (c02029444)).
Upgrading to version 1.3.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
