A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Raven Php Scripts Keep It Simple Guest Book up to 5.1.1 (Programming Language Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the file view_private.php. The manipulation of the argument tmp_theme
with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in view_private.php in Keep It Simple Guest Book (KISGB) 5.0.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) in the tmp_theme parameter. NOTE: 5.1.1 is also reportedly affected.
The weakness was released 04/02/2008 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at milw0rm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2008-1635 since 04/02/2008. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
