with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in News Manager 2.0 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the (1) lang parameter to (a) advsearch.php, (b) archive.php, and (c) index.php, and the (2) pid parameter to (d) list_tagitems.php.
The weakness was disclosed 05/19/2008 by GoLd_M (Website). The advisory is shared for download at milw0rm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2008-2340 since 05/19/2008. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
A public exploit has been developed by GoLd_M and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 4 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:advsearch.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
