Hpufunction.dll 4.0.0.1 in HP Software Update exposes the unsafe (1) ExecuteAsync and (2) Execute methods, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via an absolute pathname in the first argument.
The weakness was presented 05/21/2008 by callAX (Website). The advisory is available at milw0rm.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-2390 since 05/21/2008. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
