Cross-domain vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and 7 allows remote attackers to change the location property of a frame via the String data type, and use a frame from a different domain to observe domain-independent events, as demonstrated by observing onkeydown events with caballero-listener. NOTE: according to Microsoft, this is a duplicate of CVE-2008-2947, possibly a different attack vector.
The issue has been introduced in 03/22/2001. The weakness was shared 06/30/2008 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-2949. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2657 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 5762.
