The weakness was published 08/09/2011 by Sven Taute as MS11-061 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-1263 since 03/04/2011. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 55801 (MS11-061: Vulnerability in Remote Desktop Web Access Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2546250) (uncredentialed check)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses : XSS.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch MS11-061 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com.
