Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.14, and other versions before 2.0.0.17, allows remote attackers to bypass cross-site scripting (XSS) protection mechanisms and conduct XSS attacks via HTML-escaped low surrogate characters that are ignored by the HTML parser, as demonstrated by a "jav�ascript" sequence, aka "HTML escaped low surrogates bug."
The bug was discovered 09/23/2008. The weakness was released 09/24/2008 by Georgi Guninski (moz_bug_r_a4) with Martijn Wargers (Website). The advisory is available at redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2008-4066 since 09/12/2008. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
