The (1) fence_apc and (2) fence_apc_snmp programs, as used in (a) fence 2.02.00-r1 and possibly (b) cman, when running in verbose mode, allows local users to append to arbitrary files via a symlink attack on the apclog temporary file.
The weakness was disclosed 10/15/2008 with Red Hat (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2008-4579 since 10/15/2008. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
