The bug was discovered 01/13/2009. The weakness was presented 01/14/2009 by Esteban Martinez Fayo (TippingPoint) with Application Security, Inc. (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-3973 since 09/09/2008. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed in Python. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k.
