The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in entries/index.php in Ninja Blog 4.8, when magic_quotes_gpc is disabled, allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the cat parameter.
The weakness was disclosed 01/29/2009 by Danny (Website). The advisory is shared at push55.co.uk. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2009-0325 since 01/29/2009. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Danny Moules and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
