Double free vulnerability in Mozilla Firefox before 3.0.7, Thunderbird before 2.0.0.21, and SeaMonkey before 1.1.15 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via "cloned XUL DOM elements which were linked as a parent and child," which are not properly handled during garbage collection.

The bug was discovered 03/04/2009. The weakness was shared 03/04/2009 by Georgi Guninski (TippingPoint) with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is available at redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2009-0775 since 03/03/2009. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. Upgrading to version 2.0.0.19 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 3 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 6222.
