WebKit, as used in Apple iOS before 5.1 and iTunes before 10.6, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted web site, a different vulnerability than other WebKit CVEs listed in APPLE-SA-2012-03-07-1 and APPLE-SA-2012-03-07-2.

The weakness was shared 03/07/2012 by Abhishek Arya (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security Team as HT5190 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared at The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-0626 since 01/12/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 03/21/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

A private exploit has been developed by Abhishek Arya (Inferno). It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58319 (Apple iTunes < 10.6 Multiple Vulnerabilities (credentialed check)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows.

Upgrading to version 5.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
