The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer coercion vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-192. Integer coercion refers to a set of flaws pertaining to the type casting, extension, or truncation of primitive data types. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Unspecified vulnerability in the plug-ins for Apache and IIS web servers in Oracle BEA WebLogic Server 7.0 Gold through SP7, 8.1 Gold through SP6, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2 Gold through MP3, 10.0 Gold through MP1, and 10.3 allows remote attackers to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. NOTE: the previous information was obtained from the April 2009 CPU. Oracle has not commented on claims from a reliable researcher that this is an integer overflow in an unspecified plug-in that parses HTTP requests, which leads to a heap-based buffer overflow.
The bug was discovered 04/14/2009. The weakness was presented 04/15/2009 by Esteban Martinez Fayo (iDefense) with Application Security, Inc. (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2009-1012 since 03/19/2009. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/01/2019).
A public exploit has been developed in Python. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 8052.
