CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Perl (Programming Language Software) (the affected version is unknown). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code in the library LibYAML/perl_libyaml.c of the component YAML::LibYAML Module. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a format string vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-134. The product uses a function that accepts a format string as an argument, but the format string originates from an external source. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Multiple format string vulnerabilities in the error reporting functionality in the YAML::LibYAML (aka YAML-LibYAML and perl-YAML-LibYAML) module 0.38 for Perl allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (process crash) via format string specifiers in a (1) YAML stream to the Load function, (2) YAML node to the load_node function, (3) YAML mapping to the load_mapping function, or (4) YAML sequence to the load_sequence function.

The weakness was presented 05/30/2009 as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-1152 since 02/14/2012. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74717 (openSUSE Security Update : perl-YAML-LibYAML (openSUSE-SU-2012:1000-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 167611 (OpenSuSE Security Update for perl-YAML-LibYAML (openSUSE-SU-2015:0319-1)).

A possible mitigation has been published 4 years after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (73856) and Tenable (74717). See 4779 and 4780 for similar entries.
