Zen Cart up to 1.2.0d admin/sqlpatch.php query_string sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Zen Cart 1.3.8a, 1.3.8, and earlier does not require administrative authentication for admin/sqlpatch.php, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the query_string parameter in an execute action, in conjunction with a PATH_INFO of password_forgotten.php, related to a "SQL Execution" issue.

The weakness was disclosed 06/23/2009 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at milw0rm.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2009-2254 since 06/29/2009. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.

A public exploit has been developed in Python and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:admin/sqlpatch.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 39501 (Zen Cart password_forgotten.php Admin Access Bypass), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 9418.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (51317) and Tenable (39501). The entry 48793 is pretty similar.
