WordPress and WordPress MU before 2.8.1 exhibit different behavior for a failed login attempt depending on whether the user account exists, which allows remote attackers to enumerate valid usernames. NOTE: the vendor reportedly disputes the significance of this issue, indicating that the behavior exists for "user convenience."

The weakness was shared 07/08/2009 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-2335. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.004.
