A vulnerability was found in Chatelao PHP Address Book 4.0.2 (Programming Language Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the file delete.php of the component Address Book. The manipulation of the argument alphabet with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in PHP Address Book 4.0.x allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the (1) id parameter to delete.php or (2) alphabet parameter to index.php. NOTE: the edit.php and view.php vectors are already covered by CVE-2008-2565.

The bug was discovered 06/16/2009. The weakness was published 06/26/2009 (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2009-2608 since 07/27/2009. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by YEnH4ckEr and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 10 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:delete.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
