Opera before 11.62 does not ensure that a dialog window is placed on top of content windows, which makes it easier for user-assisted remote attackers to trick users into downloading and executing arbitrary files via a download dialog located under other windows.

The weakness was disclosed 03/27/2012 by Jordi Chancel (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at opera.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Opera. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-1925 since 03/27/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 59631 (GLSA-201206-03 : Opera: Multiple vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165304 (SUSE Security Update for Opera (openSUSE-SU-2012:0610-1)).

Upgrading to version 11.62 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (74350) and Tenable (59631). The entries 4966, 4968, 4969 and 4970 are pretty similar.
