A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Bugzilla (Bug Tracking Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function WebService
of the file Bug.create of the component WebService. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. SQL injection vulnerability in the Bug.create WebService function in Bugzilla 2.23.4 through 3.0.8, 3.1.1 through 3.2.4, and 3.3.1 through 3.4.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via unspecified parameters.
The weakness was disclosed 09/15/2009 by Max Kanat-Alexander (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2009-3165. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/22/2021). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 44778 (Debian DSA-1913-1 : bugzilla - SQL injection vulnerability), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12298 (Mozilla Bugzilla WebService Function SQL Injection Vulnerabilities and URL Password Information Disclosure Vulnerability).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
