Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in Photodex ProShow Gold 4.0.2549 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Slideshow project (.psh) file, related to the (1) cell[n].images[m].image and (2) cell[n].sound.file fields.

The weakness was disclosed 08/20/2009 (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-3214 since 09/16/2009. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 02/27/2025).

It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121509 (Photodex ProShow Gold ".psh" File Multiple Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities).
