Heap-based buffer overflow in textbox.c in newt 0.51.5, 0.51.6, and 0.52.2 allows local users to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a request to display a crafted text dialog box.
The weakness was shared 09/29/2009 by Miroslav Lichvar (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at debian.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2009-2905. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
