WebKit before r50173, as used in Google Chrome before 3.0.195.32, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via a web page that calls the JavaScript setInterval method, which triggers an incompatibility between the WTF::currentTime and base::Time functions.
The weakness was disclosed 11/05/2009 (Website). The advisory is shared at codereview.chromium.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2009-3933 since 11/12/2009. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 53764 (openSUSE Security Update : libwebkit (openSUSE-SU-2011:0024-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
