CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in MySQL up to 5.0.0.0 (Database Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component Access Restriction. The manipulation of the argument DIRECTORY with an unknown input leads to a link following vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-59. The product attempts to access a file based on the filename, but it does not properly prevent that filename from identifying a link or shortcut that resolves to an unintended resource. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

sql/sql_table.cc in MySQL 5.0.x through 5.0.88, 5.1.x through 5.1.41, and 6.0 before 6.0.9-alpha, when the data home directory contains a symlink to a different filesystem, allows remote authenticated users to bypass intended access restrictions by calling CREATE TABLE with a (1) DATA DIRECTORY or (2) INDEX DIRECTORY argument referring to a subdirectory that requires following this symlink.

The weakness was published 11/30/2009 as Bug 543619 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2008-7247. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 08/28/2021).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 17837 (MySQL < 6.0.9-alpha / 5.5.3 Access Control Weakness), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121453 (Solaris 11.1 Support Repository Update (SRU) 10.5.0 Missing).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (17837). Similar entries are available at 44076 and 53304.
