The weakness was presented 04/17/2012 by Roberto Suggi Liverani (rgod) with Oracle (Website). The advisory is available at oracle.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-1688 since 03/16/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69631 (Amazon Linux AMI : mysql51 (ALAS-2012-141)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19671 (Oracle MySQL Server Multiple Vulnerabilities).
