Integer underflow in the unlzw function in unlzw.c in gzip before 1.4 on 64-bit platforms, as used in ncompress and probably others, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted archive that uses LZW compression, leading to an array index error.
The weakness was presented 01/20/2010 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at rhn.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-0001. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 1.2.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
