The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the ccNewsletter (com_ccnewsletter) component 1.0.5 for Joomla! allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the controller parameter in a ccnewsletter action to index.php.

The weakness was presented 01/28/2010 by AtT4CKxT3rR0r1ST (Website). The advisory is available at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-0467. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.
