The pa_make_secure_dir function in core-util.c in PulseAudio 0.9.10 and 0.9.19 allows local users to change the ownership and permissions of arbitrary files via a symlink attack on a /tmp/.esd-##### temporary file.

The weakness was shared 03/18/2010 by Dan Rosenberg (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.edge.launchpad.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2009-1299. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
