The weakness was disclosed 04/17/2012 by Martin with Application Security (Website). The advisory is shared for download at oracle.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-0510 since 01/11/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 131 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58798 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (April 2012 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19664 (Oracle Database April 2012 Security Update Multiple Vulnerabilities (CPUAPR2012)).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (58798). The entries 5110, 5087, 5112 and 5111 are pretty similar.
