Integer overflow in the predospecial function in dospecial.c in dvips in (1) TeX Live and (2) teTeX might allow user-assisted remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted DVI file that triggers a heap-based buffer overflow. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.

The weakness was released 04/16/2010 by Marc Schoenefeld as Bug 572941 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2010-0739. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 47481 (Fedora 11 : texlive-2007-47.fc11 (2010-8273)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
