Sysax Multi Server 4.3 path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Sysax Multi Server 4.3. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:

Directory traversal vulnerability in Sysax Multi Server 4.3 and 4.5 allows remote authenticated users to delete arbitrary files via a ..// (dot dot slash slash) in a DELE command.

The weakness was released 03/23/2009 by Jonathan Salwan (Website). The advisory is shared for download at milw0rm.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-4800 since 04/22/2010. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a single authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.

A public exploit has been developed by Jonathan Salwan in ANSI C and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (49360) and Exploit-DB (8256). Entry connected to this vulnerability is available at 52866.
