envvars (aka envvars-std) in the Apache HTTP Server before 2.4.2 places a zero-length directory name in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH, which allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse DSO in the current working directory during execution of apachectl.

The weakness was presented 04/15/2012 (Website). The advisory is available at apache.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-0883 since 01/19/2012. Local access is required to approach this attack. Required for exploitation is a authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
