The btrfs_xattr_set_acl function in fs/btrfs/acl.c in btrfs in the Linux kernel 2.6.34 and earlier does not check file ownership before setting an ACL, which allows local users to bypass file permissions by setting arbitrary ACLs, as demonstrated using setfacl.
The issue has been introduced in 03/20/2006. The weakness was published 06/16/2010 (Website). The advisory is available at lkml.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-2071. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
