Folder Manager in Apple Mac OS X 10.5.8, and 10.6 before 10.6.4, allows local users to delete arbitrary folders via a symlink attack in conjunction with an unmount operation on a crafted volume, related to the Cleanup At Startup folder.

The weakness was released 06/17/2010 by Kevin Finisterre (pagvac) with MIT Kerberos Team (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-0546 since 02/03/2010. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 47023 (Mac OS X 10.6.x < 10.6.4 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118106 (Apple Mac OS X Security Update 2010-004 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2010-06-15-1)).

Upgrading to version 10.6.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
