Access to the local network is required for this attack. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C and been published 11 months after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 13595 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at sunsolve.sun.com.
