The startDocumentLoad function in browser/base/content/browser.js in Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x before 3.5.11 and 3.6.x before 3.6.7, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.6, does not properly implement the Same Origin Policy in certain circumstances related to the about:blank document and a document that is currently loading, which allows (1) remote web servers to conduct spoofing attacks via vectors involving a 204 (aka No Content) status code, and allows (2) remote attackers to conduct spoofing attacks via vectors involving a window.stop call.

The weakness was released 06/25/2010 as Bug 556957 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2010-1206. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 48342 (CentOS 3 : seamonkey (CESA-2010:0546)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118862 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2010:0547)).

Upgrading to version 1.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
