The TIFFYCbCrtoRGB function in LibTIFF 3.9.0 and 3.9.2, as used in ImageMagick, does not properly handle invalid ReferenceBlackWhite values, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted TIFF image that triggers an array index error, related to "downsampled OJPEG input."
The weakness was released 07/02/2010 as Bug 583081 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-2595. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 55819 (BlackBerry Enterprise Server PNG and TIFF Image Processing Vulnerabilities (KB27244)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
