Use-after-free vulnerability in the NodeIterator implementation in Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x before 3.5.11 and 3.6.x before 3.6.7, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.6, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted NodeFilter that detaches DOM nodes, related to the NodeIterator interface and a javascript callback.

The weakness was published 07/30/2010 by regenrecht as Bug 552110 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-1209. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/21/2021).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 48342 (CentOS 3 : seamonkey (CESA-2010:0546)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118862 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2010:0547)).

Upgrading to version 1.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 10006.
