The file-management scripts in the management GUI in Symantec Web Gateway 5.0.x before 5.0.3 allow remote attackers to upload arbitrary code to a designated pathname, and possibly execute this code, via unspecified vectors.

The weakness was published 05/17/2012 by SecuriTeam with Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) as SYM12-006 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared for download at symantec.com. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-0299 since 01/04/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

Upgrading to version 5.0.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
