Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 2.2 access control

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 2.2 (Virtualization Software). This issue affects an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-264. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

libspice, as used in QEMU-KVM in the Hypervisor (aka rhev-hypervisor) in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) 2.2 and qspice 0.3.0, does not properly restrict the addresses upon which memory-management actions are performed, which allows guest OS users to cause a denial of service (guest OS crash) or possibly gain privileges via unspecified vectors.

The weakness was released 08/24/2010 by Izik Eidus (Website). The advisory is shared at rhn.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-0429. An attack has to be approached locally. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/23/2021). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 48911 (CentOS 5 : qspice (CESA-2010:0633)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 155628 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Update for qspice (ELSA-2010-0633)).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (48911). Entry connected to this vulnerability is available at 54460.
