A vulnerability was found in Bsplayer BS.Player (affected version not known). It has been classified as very critical. Affected is some unknown functionality in the library iacenc.dll. Untrusted search path vulnerability in the Indeo Codec in iac25_32.ax in Microsoft Windows XP SP3 allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse iacenc.dll file in the current working directory, as demonstrated by access through BS.Player or Media Player Classic to a directory that contains a .avi, .mka, .ra, or .ram file, aka "Indeo Codec Insecure Library Loading Vulnerability." NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.

The weakness was released 08/25/2010 by LiquidWorm (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-3138 since 08/27/2010. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/24/2021). This vulnerability is assigned to T1574 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

A public exploit has been developed by LiquidWorm in ANSI C and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 57948 (MS12-014: Vulnerability in Indeo Codec Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2661637)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 12078.
