Integer overflow in the FRAMESET element implementation in Mozilla Firefox before 3.5.12 and 3.6.x before 3.6.9, Thunderbird before 3.0.7 and 3.1.x before 3.1.3, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.7 might allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a large number of values in the cols (aka columns) attribute, leading to a heap-based buffer overflow.

The weakness was disclosed 09/09/2010 as Bug 576447 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-2765 since 07/14/2010. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 49181 (CentOS 3 / 4 : seamonkey (CESA-2010:0680)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118595 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2010:0681)).

Upgrading to version 1.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (49181). The entries 4173, 54722, 54661 and 54660 are pretty similar.
